All of Life has intrinsic value, but the great hope of Life is to be wild. By that I mean self-reliant, spontaneous, self-willed, self-regulating, local, authentic and free.
Roger Ross Gipple of BeWild, ReWild Iowa
This 10 minute film by Kelly Rundle shares the importance of taking the steep slopes and frequent flooding areas, that are difficult to farm, and restoring them to wetland. It advocates use of the USDA’s Wetland Reserve Program, but the primary focus is retaining the areas that are used as wildlife sanctuaries, travel corridors and which contribute to reducing water pollution.
This fits with RegenIowa’s belief in the importance of clean air, water and nutritious food grown without fertilizers. We are advocates of thoughtful land management and conservation, without the anti-farming beliefs that sometimes come with “land preservation.”
